Clown Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus chaetodonoides), commonly referred to as Spotted Sweetlips or Harlequin Sweetlips Fish, undergo significant color transformation as they reach maturity. Initially, the juvenile exhibits a brown body adorned with prominent white spots. Upon maturation, this fish develops a predominantly black body interspersed with white spots.
The Clown Sweetlips, similarly known as Harlequin Sweetlips, requires the care of a skilled aquarist due to its potential for substantial growth. An aquarium of at least 50 gallons is recommended, equipped with ample live rock for concealment and adequate open swimming areas. Its diet should commence with live feeder shrimp to facilitate acclimatization to captivity. Notably, while the Clown Sweetlips or Spotted Sweetlips Fish may consume small invertebrates, it can be considered reef safe with caution.
