The Matano Purple Crab from Sulawesi is an aquatic crab that does not need a land part in the aquarium, but only places to perch above the water surface - a few stones or roots sticking out of the water will do. For a pair of the beautiful purple water crabs it needs 80 cm edge length or more and many hiding places. Planting is possible, but softer plants are readily nibbled. Fish and dwarf shrimp may be chased and eaten, snails are definitely part of the crabs diet. Breeding the Matano Purple should be possible in freshwater, but the crab is considered difficult to breed.
