Lavender Tang

The Lavender Tang is a striking addition to established saltwater aquariums, prized for its gentle temperament and vibrant lavender-to-purple coloration. A member of the surgeonfish family, this species grazes naturally on algae and benefits from spacious, well-decorated tanks with plenty of swimming room and hiding spots among rockwork.

Best suited to experienced aquarists with tanks of 75 gallons or larger, the Lavender Tang thrives on a varied diet of high-quality marine flakes, pellets, and fresh algae. Provide stable water conditions—pH 8.1–8.3, temperature 72–78°F, and moderate to strong water flow. Compatible with most reef-safe fish and invertebrates, though it may nip at polyps in smaller setups or when stressed.

Acclimate slowly over 1–2 hours using the drip method. Monitor closely during the first weeks, as tangs can be sensitive to transport stress. Once settled, this hardy species rewards patient keepers with years of dynamic color and personality.
