Turbo fluctuosa (Turban or Top Shell Snail) is a highly effective algae grazer that rapidly consumes hair algae and film from rock and glass surfaces, earning its reputation as a reef cleanup essential. Native to the Gulf of California, this species features a distinctive turban-shaped shell with iridescent inner surfaces. In captivity, provide secure rockwork—these active foragers will displace loose stones while searching for food—along with ample crevices for shelter and grazing space. Optimal conditions include a pH of 8.1–8.3, temperature between 72–78°F, and salinity of 1.023–1.025 (specific gravity). Success depends on stable water parameters, substantial grazing territory, and well-anchored aquascaping to support their natural browsing behavior.
