Schistura Megalodon River Loach

Schistura megalodonis is a rare, diminutive river loach from the Irrawaddy basin in Yunnan, China. Reaching just 40–42 mm, this rheophilic species thrives in fast-flowing montane streams with rocky substrates. Named for its distinctive large tooth-like jaw projection, this loach displays 10–12 dark brown bars across a light brown to purple body, with red or yellow fin accents in life. First described in 2014, it remains poorly known due to its remote habitat and small size. An excellent choice for specialized planted or biotope aquariums with strong water flow, cool temperatures, and plenty of hiding spaces among rocks and driftwood. Requires pristine water conditions and a peaceful community of similarly-sized, non-aggressive species. Best kept in small groups.
