Otocinclus Catfish vestitus

Otocinclus catfish are small, peaceful algae-eating specialists perfect for planted and nano aquariums. These diminutive bottom-dwellers reach just 1–2 inches and thrive in groups of 3–6, where they exhibit natural schooling behavior. They actively graze on algae wafers and soft algae growth, making them invaluable for maintaining tank cleanliness without chemical treatments.

Vestitus varieties display mottled patterning that adds visual interest to heavily planted setups. They prefer soft, slightly acidic water (pH 5.5–7.0) with gentle flow and plenty of hiding spots among plants and driftwood. Feed supplementary algae wafers alongside their natural grazing to ensure optimal nutrition.

Ideal tank mates include small tetras, rasboras, and dwarf shrimp. Keep water temperature between 72–79°F. Their small bioload and undemanding nature make them suitable for established 10+ gallon systems with stable parameters. Handle with care during acclimation to minimize stress.
