Brown Banded Bamboo Shark - Chiloscyllium punctatum - Large

The Brown Banded Bamboo Shark - Chiloscyllium punctatum is an elegant, nocturnal reef dweller prized for its distinctive appearance and manageable size. Juveniles display bold dark bands against a tan background that gradually fade with maturity, while adults retain subtle markings and occasional black spots. This elongated shark features a rounded snout, prominent barbels, and large dorsal fins, making it a striking addition to established aquariums. Native to Indo-Pacific coral reefs and sandy substrates, these sharks are naturally cryptic, hiding in crevices and under corals during the day and hunting small fish and crustaceans at night. They're remarkably hardy and can survive extended periods out of water between tides. Reaching a maximum length of 132 cm, they require substantial tank space and stable conditions. Oviparous breeders, they lay rounded egg cases that hatch after approximately 90 days. This specimen is offered at 16–18 inches, an ideal size for acclimation to captive environments.
