The Bi-Color Blenny, also known as the Two-colored Blenny or the Ecsenius bicolor, is a small and colorful marine fish. It gets its name from the distinct two-tone coloration it displays, with a vibrant orange or yellow front half and a contrasting dark purple or black rear half.
This blenny species is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for beginner hobbyists. It has a peaceful nature and can be kept with other peaceful fish in a community aquarium setup. However, caution should be exercised when housing multiple males, as they may become territorial towards each other.
Being a herbivorous fish, the Bi-Color Blenny's diet should mainly consist of algae-based foods. High-quality pellet or flake foods formulated for herbivores, as well as frozen or dried seaweed, can be offered. Providing ample hiding places and rocky areas in the tank will help replicate their natural habitat and provide them with spaces to explore and perch.
Reef aquarium enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the Bi-Color Blenny is considered reef-safe. It will not harm corals or other invertebrates, making it a suitable addition to a reef tank. This blenny species is known to perch on live rock or coral formations, adding an interesting element to the overall aesthetics of the tank.
With a suggested tank size of 20 gallons or larger, the Bi-Color Blenny can thrive in a well-maintained aquarium. Ensure stable water parameters, maintain good water quality, and provide a balanced diet to promote the health and vitality of this colorful and engaging fish.
